Walk to Teach Stranger Danger

DANIEL JAMES MORCOMBE AT YOUNG AGE

It was a sea of red at last year’s Walk for Daniel on the Hervey Bay Esplanade. This year’s event is expected to attract more than 1000 people.

This news was posted recently by Fraser Coast Chronicle on 28th August, 2012.

DENISE and Bruce Morcombe will be among a crowd that will march from Seafront Oval later this month in honour of their murdered son Daniel and to educate Fraser Coast children about stranger danger.

Organiser Jodie Tangikara said more than 1000 people were expected to attend the 2012 Walk for Daniel on September 22.

The all-day event will start at 10am and this year include jumping castles, arts and craft stalls, face painting and rides donated by local businesses.

Urangan Point Primary School will also host a charity barbecue.

Proceeds from the event, now in its second year, will go to the Daniel Morcombe foundation.

The foundation's aims are to educate children about personal safety and abduction and to assist victims of crimes involving children.

Ms Tangikara said she had been organising the event since the start of the year, when she first met with the Morcombes.

It has now been more than eight years since Daniel Morcombe disappeared from a Sunshine Coast bus stop.

A man was charged with his murder last August.

People taking part in the Hervey Bay Walk for Daniel have been asked to wear red, the same colour shirt worn by Daniel on the day he disappeared and the chosen colour of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

Visit DanielMorcombeFoundation-Website for more information on the foundation.
