Australian of the Year Finalists and Queensland Child Safety Ambassadors, Bruce and Denise Morcombe are set to take their next step in assisting children and families in our community.
‘Family Day Out‘ is being promoted by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation (DMF) and will be held at the picturesque Kings Beach Foreshore Precinct at Caloundra on Monday 1st October, celebrating the newly gazetted Queens Birthday public holiday. The day will form part of the Caloundra Music Festival’s Fringe Festival and will be a free event for the general public with a target market of families, parents and children aged up to 17 years of age.
“This is another proactive way that the Foundation can directly impact and give back to people in the community who continue to support us,” declared Bruce Morcombe.
“The day is about a whole host of organisations and authorities right across the child and family sector coming together to make a real community connection and offer information and assistance where necessary. And we’re going to do it in a fun and relaxed way that can be enjoyed by the whole family”
Nearly 25 exhibitors will be attending on the day along the foreshore offering information, displays, tips and assistance plus there will be a host of activities and entertainment operating from stages and facilities from the Caloundra Music Festival that the Sunshine Coast Council have kindly offered to the foundation. While the day will have a focus on child safety, it will certainly not be limited to this area.
“While the DMF has an emphasis on personal and cyber safety plus supporting child victims of crime, we totally understand that there are many other organisations out there that support the family unit and we wanted to bring them all together in one place to make them more accessible,” added Denise Morcombe.
Exhibitors and resources provided on the day will include Bravehearts, AGL Action Rescue Helicopter, Laurie Lawrence and Kids Alive – Do the Five, Sunnykids, Carly Ryan Foundation, PACT, Peakcare, Safetyhouse Association of QLD, United Synergies, Save the Children, Little Kickers, Kids on the Coast, Schoolzine, Integrated Family and Youth Service (IFYS), In Safe Hands, Children’s Safety Australia, Queensland Fire & Rescue, Queensland Police Dog Squad, AFL, Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian, Oh No Mo!, ACMA, Family Planning QLD, Queensland Homicide Victims Support Group (QHVSG), Roadcraft, Taskforce Argos, Queensland Police Service Missing Persons Unit, Melanoma Patients Australia, Surf Lifesaving Australia including Met Caloundra and Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Clubs, Australian Federal Police and the Queensland Police Service Crime Prevention Unit.
While activities will include a longboard skateboarding comp, beach activities, arts and crafts as well as a children’s animal farm plus the usual favourites such as a carousel, ferris wheel, jumping castles and more.
And the live entertainment lineup will impress with a diverse range of outstanding local music and performances from names such as Kelsie Rimmer, the Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra, ET Circus, JEKKS and the Priests of Heka, Cassie Hilbers, McKenzie Comer, Afterglow, Holistic, Sam and Tim Aitken, QLD Police Pipes Band and Jally Productions.
Met Caloundra SLSC will have a strong presence on the day to promote their role in educating children and families about Surf Awareness. Local surf identities Rebecca Creedy, current Australian Iron Woman Champion and Jupiter’s Summer Surf Girl Entrant Apryl Cordingley will also be onhand this Wednesday to help kickstart the event.
And to add icing to the cake, another great community player has come onboard as a major supporter. The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter will make an appearance twice during the day, offering the public the chance to view a water winch demonstration and basket rescue, skills the rescue operation would typically use when people are in distress at sea.
“This is what the day is all about, community stakeholders coming together to assist our children and families from a wide range of backgrounds. We couldn’t be prouder to be associated and work with the likes of the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter and all the other organisations who will be participating on the day,” finished Bruce Morcombe.
The day is planned to be an annual event on the local community calendar with the potential to grow the ‘Education through Entertainment’ event platform to other areas across Australia, as an effective cut-through means to deliver key messages and information that empowers children, parents and families.
