Voice Star Kelsie Rimmer to Sing for Daniel Morcombe at Family Day Out - Keeping Kids Safe, Caloundra

KELSIE RIMMER

I found the news on Herald Sun. It was posted recently by them on, 22nd August, 2012.

THE Voice contestant Kelsie Rimmer will headline the Daniel Morcombe Foundation's latest child-safety initiative.

The 20-year-old singer/songwriter from the Sunshine Coast will take centre stage at Family Day Out - Keeping Kids Safe, at Kings Beach in Caloundra on October 1.

Bruce and Denise Morcombe officially launched the event at the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter hangar at Marcoola on Wednesday.

The child safety crusaders said they wanted to build the new event into the most educational and entertaining child protection and harm prevention awareness day in Australia.

Mr Morcombe said they had taken advantage of the new Queen's Birthday public holiday in Queensland to launch Family Day Out.

"This is another proactive way that the foundation can directly impact and give back to people in the community who continue to support us," he said.

"The day is about a whole host of organisations and authorities right across the child and family sector coming together to make a real community connection and offer information and assistance where necessary.

"We're going to do it in a fun and relaxed way that can be enjoyed by the whole family."

The live entertainment lineup will include the Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra, ET Circus, JEKKS and the Priests of Heka, Cassie Hilbers, McKenzie Comer, Afterglow, Sam and Tim Aitken, QLD Police Pipes Band and Jally Productions.

Daniel's older brother Dean, who plays bass guitarist, will also perform with his band Holistic.

Dozens of exhibitors will offer have displays offering information and assistance.

Activities such as long board skateboarding, beach activities, arts and crafts and a children's animal farm will mask an educational message at the free event.

"It will be entertainment with a purpose to make sure kids are always thinking about their safety and how to protect themselves," Mr Morcombe said.

Event organiser Tracey McAsey said they hoped the Family Day Out would attract a crowd of at least 5000 in its first year.

CEO David Donaldson said AGL crews would make two appearances on the day to demonstrate the life saving water rescue techniques.

"In the past six months alone we have winched children from roofs and vehicles trapped by flood, airlifted children suffering meningitis and other potentially fatal illnesses, come to the rescue of families involved in motor vehicle accidents, transferred premature and unwell babies with the support of a specialist paediatric doctor and nurse and aided youngsters injured in falls, near drowning, pedestrian accidents and the like," he said.

Family Day Out is the latest child safety project for the Morcombes and comes after they launched a child safety app, HELP ME, through iTunes in March.
