GENEROUS folk are being asked to dress up and dig deep when police host a charity ball in Hervey Bay next week.

The "Fire and Ice"-themed event will be held at the Bayswater Hotel on September 8, in conjunction with Child Protection Week, with all proceeds going to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

"It's the first police ball on the Fraser Coast in about 13 or 14 years," Detective Senior Sergeant Nikki Colfs said.

"At this stage we've sold about 220 tickets, so that's 22 tables."

She said child safety campaigners Bruce and Denise Morcombe wouldn't be able to attend the event, but they would be on the Fraser Coast later in the month for the Walk for Daniel event.

"But they will do a video presentation on the night, thanking everyone for their support."

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation, set up in memory of the abducted Sunshine Coast teenager, aims to educate kids on personal safety and stranger danger.

It also assists victims of crimes involving children.

The red and black tie event will begin at 6pm.

Tickets cost $140 a person and are bought in tables of 10.

This cost includes canapes, a two-course dinner and drink package and entertainment throughout the night provided by Franc Benn and Uncle Arthur.
